Parliamentarians representing the Pan African and European Parliaments met on 20 October in Midrand, South Africa discussing the EU-Africa Summit. A twenty-five Member strong delegation of MEPs will hold a pre-summit meeting with an equal number of Pan-African Parliamentarians in Lisbon where a joint declaration by both Parliaments is likely to be adopted, which will then be presented to the Heads of State and Government at the Summit.

Pursuing its efforts to increase the transparency of the highly sensitive EPA negotiations, ECDPM has decided to set up dedicated pages for each ACP region negotiating an EPA with the EU at www.acp-eu-trade.org/epa.

The Portuguese presidency have not yet sent out the invitations to the EU-Africa Summit planned to take place in December. Their Prime Minister Jose Socrates has said recently that he is of the opinion that all countries should be invited. Read more here.
Britain’s Gordon Brown has earlier declared that he will boycott the summit if Zimbabwe’s president Robert Mugabe attends, and the Czech Republic are now considering to follow his example. Read more here.
